How to keep pores clear in hot weather

Updated: Oct 20, 2022

My SPF is in my moisturiser so that's ok right?

Not really......It will probably only offer protection from the UVB [ burning] rays & not protection from the much more damaging UVA [ ageing] rays, see below......

Tips for looking after your skin in the heat: 1) Our skin sweats more in the heat and can create clogged pores ; choose a sunscreen that has breathable filters such as ZINC OXIDE & TITANIUM OXIDE, these will protect against BOTH UVA [ the more damaging /ageing rays] and UVB [ the burning ones] This is known as a BROAD SPECTRUM sunscreen Your moisturiser with SPF will NOT contain this! 2) Cleanse your skin throughly morning & night ( ditch the wipes & micellar water ) remove the cleanser with water and a CLEAN flannel 3) use a toner with salicylic acid that will get right inside the pores and clear build up of sweat & bacteria 4] We need to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours as even mineral sunscreens [ zinc oxide & titanium dioxide ] can start to degrade in the heat and after a work out 5] Is your sunscreen a chemical or physical one? Physical sunscreens sit on the surface of the skin and reflect the UV rays away from the skin as soon as they are applied, they are much safer for the skin and the environment Chemical sunscreens are absorbed into the skin and you have to wait at least 15mins for them to work, over time the UV radiation breaks them down and they become a free radical [ nasty molecules that cause ageing] examples include: oxybenzone, octinoxate, 4-MBC, octocrylene and homosalate. Here is an excerpt from a skin science paper on safe sunscreen: Dozens of studies in the last decade have examined the potential health hazards of small molecule sunscreen chemicals, including skin irritation or allergy, hormone disruption and skin damage that occurs when sunlight interacts with sunscreen chemicals (EWG: Environmental Working Group, 2015). Many of these chemicals are known or suspected hormone disruptors, allergens and carcinogens. So Physical sunscreens are definitely safer! I currently have 6 different types of physical sunscreens on sale to suit all skin types and lifestyles If you would like assistance please let me know In the meantime Stay safe in the heat Laura
